George McLaughlin, Chairman, welcomed attendees.

Our guest speaker this evening is Paul Grey who works at the leisure centre as a Move to Improve consultant. He explained that Move to Improve is a prescribed exercise programme for people with a range of medical conditions, including diabetes, to improve long term conditions and prevent deterioration. He explained that the programme included a variety of physical activities all of which are designed to help people improve in their daily lives.

Paul outlined various activities held on different days during the week. These included walking, cycling, exercise classes, gym and swimming. Each activity is run by qualified consultants who will tailor the activity to individual needs and abilities.

Referral forms were distributed and Nigel Frew, who has taken part in the Move to Improve programme, added some details of his own personal experiences of the programme.

Pauls presentation was well received and we look forward to hearing from him again at a future meeting.

George led a general discussion on possible future activities including organising occasional walks, a social evening, national diabetic day in November, walking football and sponsorship of a 5 a side tournament.

For our next meeting we are hoping to have a Podiatrist talk to the group about foot care. Please follow our Facebook page for details.
